Power Snatch, the new side project from Hayley Williams and producer Daniel James, have released a cover of “Spit” by mark william lewis, according to Stereogum. The track will appear on a deluxe edition of lewis’ self-titled debut album.
A busy year for Power Snatch
Williams has been touring extensively this year while also launching Power Snatch with James. The duo announced themselves in January and have since surprise-released two EPs, as well as a couple of collaborations with the UK artist Tiberius b. They also recorded a cover of This Is Lorelei’s “Perfect Hand” for the expanded version of Box For Buddy, Box For Stars.
The new release marks another cover, this time of a song by a different cult indie singer-songwriter.
About the original
Lewis, a former member of bar italia, last year became the first artist to sign to A24 Music, the record-label arm of the independent film distributor. He released his self-titled debut album through the label that year.
Stereogum describes lewis’ original version of “Spit” as spindly, brooding and slow-building. Power Snatch’s interpretation is characterized as big, bright and immersive, creating a clear contrast between the two takes.
Deluxe edition details
The deluxe edition of mark william lewis is due on October 23 via A24 Music. Alongside the Power Snatch cover of “Spit,” it will include several other bonus tracks: a new song called “Adrenaline,” a live version of “Ugly,” and a Mad Professor dub remix of “Petals.”
Both versions of “Spit” are available to stream, allowing listeners to compare the original with Power Snatch’s reworking.
